Hey look I'm doing something

Okay so first blog post, interesting. Always kinda been pretty averse to this kind of thing, I barely even use facebook. Anyway, the reason this is Music for the Zombie apocalypse is simple, I needed a blog topic and I needed a reason to start listening to music again after a couple months. Also zombies are awesome.

Now here's the problem... I still didn't really start listening to music as much again. I used to listen to upwards of 3 or 4 new albums a week, this time it took me until just today to finally get to listening to an album me and my friends have been looking forward to for a long time, one of our favorite bands. It came out 2 weeks ago. I am awful. But it's a start, so I'll be talking about that in a bit.

First maybe I should talk about my personal music taste. I try to listen to a wide variety of music, and I give everything a chance. Looking at my Last.fm widget thing real quick, some of my most listened to bands are Brand New, Radiohead, Celldweller, Say Anything, Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Childish Gambino, Yellowcard, Coldplay, Nine Inch Nails, Metric, Senses Fail, Bomb the Music Industry! and I bunch of stuff I'm forgetting to mention or that I like but are too new to consider favorites, like Innerparty System, Nero, and AWOLNation. I try to stay away from defining things by genre but it seems that the most of that list is alt rock, indie rock, electronic, and hip-hop. But none of that matters anyway, just thought I'd mention it because I'll probably go off on tangents talking about some of their stuff at various times.

All of these are awesome.

So another of my favorite bands is Enter Shikari, they're kind of a post hardcore electronic/slightly dubsteppy band from England. That's the album I managed to finally listen to, A Flash Flood of Colour. I was incredibly impressed by it, one of their best albums in my opinion, it's solid all the way through with several highlights to it. See these guys have such a unique sound to them and I think they have really honed it this time. They've got aggressive vocals, but not annoyingly so, and the guitar and drum beats are fantastic, meanwhile the electronics they have in the background are what really what set them apart with their slight dubstep qualities. It all fuses into what I feel is a truly unique sound.
 Hey look a song
There's an example of one of the new songs, Ssssnakepit, the music video itself isn't anything special, but it's one of the better songs on the album. Other highlights are System... ... Meltdown, Stalemate, Gandhi Mate, Gandhi, Warm Smiles Do Not Make You Welcome You Here, and Constellations.

Oh no here's another one they're everywhere

This is Stalemate right here, not a good representation of the band frankly, much softer than usual but I actually love it for that, great sound to it. Enter Shikari's lyrics are largely about politics, war, the economy being awful, and how we have the strength to overcome all of this. Typical punk rock band stuff. Now normally I don't really like things like that, I got sick of Rise Against and Flobots pretty fast, it usually bores me or even whiny at times when used to much, but it doesn't bother me here. The main subject is the same but these guys manage to come across as being highly concerned and legitimately wanting to make a difference, but they also clearly don't take themselves too seriously. They seem to actually be really relaxed and have a lot of fun making their music, and I love that.
Not on the album, but a current single. Weird music video though...

Their concerts are also the best I've been to I'd have to say. Always a fun experience and they put on a great show. The guys are all really friendly to their fans too. Great stuff. Hey speaking of concerts and live music though, have you seen the line-up for Coachella yet? It's phenomenal.
I'm going. This is Happening.

So anyway, I loved the album. Now as for a zombie apocalypse... eh I can't really see myself defending my loved ones from the horde while listening to this. Of course still you need a supply of music to listen to in your downtime. Which you probably won't have much of. Because of the zombies. But it's nice to have a supply just in case, so I would put this on there for that. But actually zombie fighting soundtrack? Not really.

This actually took much more to write about than I thought, huh, I had a whole giant off topic direction in my head i was planning on going down but I don't need to anymore. Cool. Anyway, you can stream the whole album HERE if you want, but otherwise I'm done for now, I'll save my off topic escape plans for next week. Woooo.
